Paul Pinkerton retires after 45 years of Dentistry

Paul Pinkerton met Chris Kennedy at De La Salle College Ashfield in the 1960’s and they decided to enter the Faculty of Dentistry in 1966.

As well as developing his academic and clinical skills over the next five or six years, Paul (and Chris) joined the recently formed Sydney University Rugby League Club and made lifelong friends whilst showing their skills as hard running and defending centres and wingers.

On Graduation Paul worked for the Shanahans, two well known Dentists in Homebush, and in early 1973 left with Chris to live in London and work in the National Health System of The UK.

Work in London was interspersed with lots of British and  European holidays, often including golf trips to Ireland and Scotland. Paul was always planning to “see you in Munich”!

After a couple of years in London Paul decided to take his sporty “Lotus Elan” to South Africa. He worked in Cape Town for some months and met Sue Watkins Baker whilst there.

He returned to London, where by chance, he met Sue again and a longterm friendship began to flourish. They returned to Australia in the late 1970’s, worked with the Shanahans again in Homebush as well as part time with Chris, who had just set up a Dental practice in Birkenhead Point.

During this time Paul and Sue married, and in 1985 they returned to England, where Paul worked in Central London, and children Holly and Jack were born.

In 1994 Paul returned to Sydney and commenced working at the Lyons Road Dental Surgery with Chris and David Sheen.

Over the next twenty years Paul nurtured his young family and continued his sporting interests, following the Western Suburbs Rugby League team, now the Wests Tigers and enjoyed his tennis, squash, golf and skiing, excelling in all. He also took great care of his aging parents and his extended family.

Paul has a remarkable temperament. Never appearing to get rattled when things aren’t going smoothly, making him the perfect person to work with. He is much loved by all the staff who have worked here and admired and respected by his many patients who will miss his dedicated professional care, calm, friendly and down to earth manner.

Most of all we will miss his dry sense of humour which always seemed to sneak out when most unexpected.

Paul will be very much missed by all of us here at Lyons Road.

We wish Paul a much deserved, long and happy retirement.

Why Should I Choose Lyons Dental?

We love our community. We are a local, family run business, and taking care of our local families is important to us. We treat our patients how we would like to be treated ourselves, and are honest & caring in our treatment approach. We understand that for many people visiting the dentist is not their favourite thing, so we aim to make patients as comfortable as possible throughout. We offer a wide variety of treatment options & always take the time to explain everything thoroughly. (And welcome any follow up questions!)

We are not a big chain dental company, but do accept all health funds. We also process the health fund payments at each appointment, saving you the hassle of following up these payments yourselves.

Here at Lyons Dental we are proud to offer a wide variety of dental services for all ages, tailored to your personal requirements. These services include checkups, x-rays, emergency treatments, restorations, crowns & bridges, veneers, dentures, implants, root canal therapy, extractions, teeth straightening & whitening (among others!)

At Lyons Dental we focus on preventative dentistry. We prefer to prevent problems from occurring & to fix little problems earlier, as it is usually much simpler (& cheaper!) to do so before they have a chance to become big problems. A lot can change in 6 months! Especially when it comes to teeth – they are always working hard! Therefore a regular 6 monthly dental check-up can save you a lot of pain and expense in the long-term.
At the checkup appointments we also recommend a teeth clean to remove any build ups that have accumulated in the previous months.
At Lyons Dental we accept all major Australian credit cards (eg VISA, MasterCard & AMEX), Cash, Cheque & Bank Transfer. We do not charge any surcharges for any payment type.

We also accept all health funds & are able to claim your health fund rebate at the time of your appointment, saving you the hassel of following up these payments yourself.

At Lyons dental our patient’s comfort is our top priority. We aim to make éveryone feel welcome & safe in our clinic. All of our staff are friendly, empathetic and caring. We use clear communication & explanations to help minimise the fear associated with seeing the dentist. We also make sure to use topical & local anaesthetics, as well as nitrous oxide (happy gas) as required to ensure effective pain management. And a good distraction never hurts – our surgeries all have TVs on the ceiling to take your mind off whatever may be happening in your mouth! (A clear favourite with our kids!)

We’d love to see you! To make an appointment or for any enquiries feel free to give one of our friendly staff a call on 97121575 or email us at reception@lyonsdental.com.au. Or simply send an enquiry through our website.
