A crown is a tooth-shaped cap placed over a damaged tooth to restore its function and appearance. Crowns are used for:
Sensitive teeth may indicate cracks from stress or wear. A crown can protect the tooth and prevent further damage.
Replacing fillings reduces natural tooth structure, stressing the tooth and raising fracture risk. A crown strengthens the remaining tooth, improving longevity.
A crown can restore a discolored or worn-down tooth, improving its appearance and hiding alignment imperfections.
After a root canal, a crown protects the tooth from fracture and reinfection, ensuring long-term strength.
A bridge fills gaps by crowning adjacent teeth and adding a false tooth between them. This prevents shifting, improves function, and protects your smile.
Dental crowns come in different materials, each offering unique benefits based on your dental needs. Whether you prioritise aesthetics, durability, or a balance of both, there’s a crown option suited for you:
These are completely tooth coloured & can blend in well to the adjacent teeth for maximum aesthetics
This option uses porcelain fused over a metal base. It can provide good strength & aesthetics
Gold is blended with other alloys to create a shiny & protective crown. Although not as aesthetic as the other options it provides excellent strength & durability, is great for posterior crowns & for use in patients who may grind their teeth.
Assess your dental needs
Shape teeth & take impressions
Protect while the final piece is made
Secure, custom-fit crown or bridge
Bridges are used to fill missing spaces that occur when a tooth is/teeth are lost. The use of and type of bridge will depend on the location of and the expected amount of force that will be put on the tooth over time. A bridge also serves as a good replacement option if the placement of implants is not possible.
A gap left by missing teeth can cause the surrounding teeth to rotate to or move into that space. This isn’t good for the remaining teeth as they can become unattractive and more difficult to clean. A bridge can be fabricated for and cemented before that occurs, with the surrounding teeth acting as anchors for the bridge. The replacement tooth, (called the pontic), is connected to the crowns that anchor onto the adjacent teeth. A bridge can be made from all ceramic material, porcelain fused to metal or a gold alloy.
