Why is it important to bring your child to the dentist?
Baby teeth are critical for eating, speech development, holding the space for the adult teeth & proper development of the face & jaw. (As well as for little smiles!)
Preventative dental care is important to us, & research shows that children with poor oral health have a high risk of growing into adults with poor oral health. That’s why we like to see kids as early as possible to check for any problems & to try to establish healthy oral habits from an early age. We also want all children to grow up loving the dentist!
Seeing children regularly also helps us to detect orthodontic problems early & allows us to assess whether early intervention orthodontics are an option. At Lyons Dental we also understand the importance of proper nasal breathing & airway function for proper growth & development & are able to refer to an appropriate ear, nose & throat doctor if we feel that further investigation is required here.
We recommend regular 6 monthly check-up & clean appointments. Sometimes other treatment may be required such as fissure seals, fillings or extractions, and we can discuss all the options with you & provide a quote if necessary. Most of the time these can be carried out in the dental chair by one of our experienced dentists, however we also offer treatment using nitrous oxide (happy gas) which can help kids to relax & make treatment easier.

We accept all health fund cards & process all health fund payments at each appointment, saving you the hassle of following up these payments yourselves.
We also are providers of the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme which allows up to $1000 of treatment to eligible children. (Check with Medicare to see if your child qualifies for this scheme)

We love our community. We are a local, family run business, and taking care of our local families is important to us. We treat our patients how we would like to be treated ourselves, and are honest & caring in our treatment approach. We understand that for many people visiting the dentist is not their favourite thing, so we aim to make patients as comfortable as possible throughout. We offer a wide variety of treatment options & always take the time to explain everything thoroughly. (And welcome any follow up questions!)
We are not a big chain dental company, but do accept all health funds. We also process the health fund payments at each appointment, saving you the hassle of following up these payments yourselves.

At Lyons dental our patient’s comfort is our top priority. We aim to make éveryone feel welcome & safe in our clinic. All of our staff are friendly, empathetic and caring. We use clear communication & explanations to help minimise the fear associated with seeing the dentist. We also make sure to use topical & local anaesthetics, as well as nitrous oxide (happy gas) as required to ensure effective pain management. And a good distraction never hurts – our surgeries all have TVs on the ceiling to take your mind off whatever may be happening in your mouth! (A clear favourite with our kids!)
