Why Would I Need Root Canal Therapy?

Root Canal therapy is required if the pulp/nerve in a tooth becomes damaged or infected. This can happen if there is a large amount of decay, a very deep filling, cracks present in the tooth or the tooth has sustained some form of trauma.

The pulp chamber is the central part of the tooth which houses the nerves & blood vessels. If these becomes damaged or infected you may experience pain and or swelling. Occasionally the nerves can die & become infected painlessly & problems only become evident if the tooth changes colour or if we see signs of infection in the surrounding bone on an x-ray.

How Does Root Canal Therapy Work?

Root canal therapy involves removing the infected nerve tissue in the pulp chamber & replacing it with a filling material. Once the infected pulp has been removed, and the pulp chamber has been flushed with disinfectants our dentists will fill the tooth with a rubber-based material. A crown is usually recommended after root canal therapy to protect the remaining tooth structure from fracture & re-infection. Unfortunately root canal therapy has a pretty bad reputation, however in the majority of cases it can be carried out in pain-free appointments & allow you to keep your tooth for many years to come!

Why Should I Choose Lyons Dental?

We love our community. We are a local, family run business, and taking care of our local families is important to us. We treat our patients how we would like to be treated ourselves, and are honest & caring in our treatment approach. We understand that for many people visiting the dentist is not their favourite thing, so we aim to make patients as comfortable as possible throughout. We offer a wide variety of treatment options & always take the time to explain everything thoroughly. (And welcome any follow up questions!)

We are not a big chain dental company, but do accept all health funds. We also process the health fund payments at each appointment, saving you the hassle of following up these payments yourselves.

Here at Lyons Dental we are proud to offer a wide variety of dental services for all ages, tailored to your personal requirements. These services include checkups, x-rays, emergency treatments, restorations, crowns & bridges, veneers, dentures, implants, root canal therapy, extractions, teeth straightening & whitening (among others!)

At Lyons Dental we focus on preventative dentistry. We prefer to prevent problems from occurring & to fix little problems earlier, as it is usually much simpler (& cheaper!) to do so before they have a chance to become big problems. A lot can change in 6 months! Especially when it comes to teeth – they are always working hard! Therefore a regular 6 monthly dental check-up can save you a lot of pain and expense in the long-term.
At the checkup appointments we also recommend a teeth clean to remove any build ups that have accumulated in the previous months.
At Lyons Dental we accept all major Australian credit cards (eg VISA, MasterCard & AMEX), Cash, Cheque & Bank Transfer. We do not charge any surcharges for any payment type.

We also accept all health funds & are able to claim your health fund rebate at the time of your appointment, saving you the hassel of following up these payments yourself.

At Lyons dental our patient’s comfort is our top priority. We aim to make éveryone feel welcome & safe in our clinic. All of our staff are friendly, empathetic and caring. We use clear communication & explanations to help minimise the fear associated with seeing the dentist. We also make sure to use topical & local anaesthetics, as well as nitrous oxide (happy gas) as required to ensure effective pain management. And a good distraction never hurts – our surgeries all have TVs on the ceiling to take your mind off whatever may be happening in your mouth! (A clear favourite with our kids!)

We’d love to see you! To make an appointment or for any enquiries feel free to give one of our friendly staff a call on 97121575 or email us at reception@lyonsdental.com.au. Or simply send an enquiry through our website.
